Sylvia Wang featured in Auf dem Strom

Guest concert pianist Sylvia Wang performed last night with the Brightmusic chamber music ensemble in a performance entitled “Auf dem Strom” (“On the River”). Dr. Wang is an associate professor of music at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. She received her music education at the Royal Academy of Music in London and the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. Dr. Wang and the Brightmusic musicians performed four works. During the first half of the program, they performed “Alphorn” for piano, voice and horn by Richard Strauss; “Auf dem Strom” for piano, voice and horn by Franz Schubert; and Quintet in E-Flat Major for Piano and Winds (oboe, clarinet, bassoon and horn) by Ludwig van Beethoven. In the second half of the concert, they performed the Quintet in g minor for piano and string quartet by Dmitri Shostakovich. The Brightmusic musicians who appeared last night were Gregory Lee (violin), Rossitza Goya (violin), Jeffery Cowen (viola), Tomasz Zieba (cello), Lisa Harvey-Reed (oboe), Chad Burrow (clarinet), Carl Rath (bassoon), Kate Pritchett (horn) and William Nield Christensen (tenor).
